Receiving a blood test result stamped "within normal range" does not mean you are healthy — it means you are not sick enough to be flagged by population-average reference ranges. Functional medicine takes a different approach: optimizing biomarkers for peak performance, not just avoiding disease.

Here are the 10 biomarkers our clinicians look at first — and what the optimal (not just normal) values mean.

1. HbA1c (Glycated Haemoglobin)

What it measures: Your average blood sugar over the past 3 months.
